Travel
Students generally arrive by car. Alternatively, an adequate rail and bus service supplies the city of Bangor and local bus and taxi services are a available for travel to and from the castle entrance, however, the walk from the entrance to the New Legacy School workshops takes about twenty minutes.
Hours
The New Legacy workshops open at 9 AM and close promptly at 5 PM. Because of the nature and security of the National Trust properties, opening and closing times are strictly adhered to.
Skill Requirements
Our foundational courses and one-day workshops begin at ground level so that you and we know that you have a good foundation on which to build and develop your skill. Students attending our more advanced courses must therefore first complete our foundational woodworking course before attending any of the more advanced-level workshops.
Cancelation
While we try to ensure that every class is on schedule and everything goes according to plan, circumstances may occur that necessitate our cancelling or changing the date of a workshop. If we are unable to reschedule a workshop to fit your schedule, we will gladly refund your workshop payment. Unfortunately, we cannot accept responsibility for other expenses such as accommodations, travel bookings and loss of earnings etc.
If you have to cancel a workshop booking please call us and let us know as soon as possible so that we can work with you. If you withdraw from a workshop more than 30 days before the date of the workshop, we will refund any deposits received. If you give less than a 30-day notice, we will refund your deposit if we are able to fill your place in the class. We will consider illness and family emergencies to be legitimate exceptions to this policy. There will be a £20.00 non-refundable application fee in either case.
Workshop Safety
The following are required both for your safety and the safety of others in the workshop:
~No Children allowed in the workshops during classes
~No open toed shoes or sandals
~No shorts. Please wear suitable protective work clothes
~No alcohol allowed
Tools and Materials
We provide high quality tools in excellent condition for your use throughout the course and we also provide all of the materials and equipment needed for each workshop. However, many students enjoy using their own tools or would like to ‘break in’ their new ones, so, please, feel free to bring your own personal tools along if you prefer.
Other Useful Equipment
We strongly recommend that you bring personal note and sketchbooks to record information during the workshops. A digital camera is also useful for memory aid and recording successes, memorable moments etc. That said, please be considerate of your fellow students and instructors. Do respect others during the workshops. We generally discourage audiovisual recording as this tends to be a distraction to all concerned. We do not allow audiovisual recording of lectures and demonstrations or fellow students except by express permission by staff and students.
Accommodation
Because of tourism to the North Wales region and the surrounding areas of Bangor in particular, accommodations are readily available at affordable rates. The choices range from Hotels and B&B’s, to camping and caravanning, holiday cottages, farms and many other options. During busy tourist seasons accommodation can sometimes be difficult so please consider the dates of your workshop and where necessary book well in advance. Age Requirements
Since our workshops are specifically intended for adults, each student must be 18 years old on the date of the chosen class to enroll. However, we can arrange workshops for younger students on an individual or small group basis. Please call the New Legacy office for more information.
