Making the Chairside Table

I finished a table in last week's class, the new chairside table I designed that everyone makes in part II of the Foundational Course. I wanted to see how long it takes to make completely using only hand tools. I had lots of routine interruptions, but even so, with eight hand cut mortise and tenons, four shaved and shaped legs spokeshaved, planed and scraped for sanding and four arched aprons, I can complete one in about 8-10 hours.
These
tables
are made from clear solid oak, and will last a lifetime. Oak is a joy to work with. Not at all what many think. One of my sons is working with me. He's making a matching coffee table and should be done in a couple of days all going as planned. I'll post a picture to let you see the pair together when we're done.
