That sounds like a good find. I like stuff like that. Pity it's a 4 1/2 because there's an I Sorby lever cap for a #4 on eBay right now. Interesting about being made in the same factory. That may well be true but I would like to find out. I use a Woden 4 1/2 now and really like it as well as some of my other old planes. All the best, Paul

I have just bought a box of old metal plane bits, one of the things it included, was most of a Sorby 4 1/2. There is no lever cap and the only blade that would fit is a Record one, thought the cap iron it is attached to looks identical to the picture of yours. The plane body is red, but the frog is black so i don't know if it is original either. I'll try and post a photo when I get a chance. There is an article on cornishworkshop.co.uk that I can't now find that suggests that Sorby, Record and Marples planes were all made in the same factory in Sheffield

I guess a connection between 2 things is a joint. The Kreg has applications, I used a small one with stainless screws on the restoration of a classic caravan where I didn't want to cut into exisiting framework or add weight. Not sure I would make a whole piece of furniture though. But if all I could do was cut straight and use a cordless drill I would still have the satisfaction of having made something

Hi Paul Just a line to thank you for another excelent course The three days spent with yourself and the other guys was very challenging, enjoyable and rewarding. I have my table assembled with two coats of Liberon, just needs a final sanding and waxing. I am very impressed with the finished table, prior to my first course with you I would not have thought I could make such quality joints using only hand tools. Best Regards David
